Film Screening: Mr. Deng Goes to Washington (Sep. 22, 2015)
Carter Presidential Library and Museum Theater

Mr. Deng Goes to Washington
The Carter Center China Program will screen the documentary “Mr. Deng Goes to Washington,” which tells the story of Deng Xiaoping’s visit to the Unites States in early 1979 at the invitation of President Carter. It was released commercially in China in May. In addition to having grossed over several million USD in ticket sales, the film has also received accolades from both the film critics and international relations scholars in China.

The Jimmy Carter Presidential Library will show the documentary. The award-winning director Mr. Fu Hongxing will travel to Atlanta to join the discussion after the film screening with some U.S.-China experts on the significance of Deng’s visit and how the U.S.-China relationship has reached a critical moment. The discussion will also highlight one of President Carter’s most enduring legacies as well as the Center’s ongoing work to put the bilateral relations on a stronger foundation.
